Ethos
We founded Sekford with a singular vision: utilise time-honoured craftsmanship to create beautifully elegant and accessible luxury dress-watches that are guided by classic British horological principles
FOUNDING PRINCIPLES
The name of our company references Sekforde Street in Clerkenwell, London, an area that was once one of the world’s most important watch-making hubs. Our first watch was directly inspired by the long tradition of British watchmaking; characterised by its bespoke font work and clarity of white space it became the bedrock of Sekford’s founding principles;
Beauty
Quality
Longevity
Pursuit of quality
We honour traditional British horology and believe in the principle that quality and luxury should be accessible to the many, not the few. Our design, engineering and production processes relentlessly pursue this objective and always will
Swiss Made
We care deeply about the quality of our watches, that’s why we engineer and produce our watches at our workshops in Biel, Switzerland, applying generations of expertise to produce every component to our exacting standards. Our watches already comply with the stringent 2017 Swiss Made regulations
CASE FINISHING
Demonstrating the Sekford team’s experience and expertise in luxury watch design, the Type 1A’s bespoke case features carefully alternated polished and brushed surfaces, resulting in a level of finish seldom seen at this price point
CRYSTAL
Rather than use acrylic, as is normally used for a glass of this shape, we collaborated with our manufacturers in Switzerland to develop a unique box-domed pebble-shaped mineral crystal. The result provides brilliant refractions, echoing the effect of fine antique pocket watches, making the dial appear wide, open and bright
Hands
Curved to follow the shape of the box-domed crystal and dial, the minute hands of our watches are curved
Typography
Designed in collaboration with font foundry Commercial Type, the numerals of the Type 1A’s dial are set in a bespoke version of Chiswick, a typeface inspired by a vernacular of 18th and 19th century lettering by hand. The contrast between thick and thin line weights pushed the limits of dial printing technology to deliver clarity and typographic balance
Domed Dial
Echoing the curvature of the glass and hands, our dials are domed and tooled exclusively for Sekford and supplemented by simple polished markers that bring the face to life. Our dials have been designed for maximum readability with a high contrast between its pure white finish and bespoke numerals that echoes the enamel dials of pocket watches, while the sunburst dial evokes a more contemporary approach to watchmaking
Fine English Leather
Our stitched watch straps are made from hard-wearing English leathers (Bridle and Shell Cordovan), sourced from one of Britain’s oldest tanneries in Derbyshire. Additional satinated finishing has been applied to the buckles to add further distinction
Engraving
The Sekford logo is an English Gothic Revival engraving, cut by specialist wood engraver Mark Wilkinson. It appears on the back of all Sekford wristwatches, along with its unique edition number
